Tshepo on international honour list

uTshepo Mde has been selected for the international IBBY Honour List for 2008.

The book was selected as one of five children's books from South Africa to appear on the 2008 Honour List of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY). The IBBY Honour List is compiled every two years, and the books selected for it are exhibited in seven exhibitions around the world.

The books on the list are judged to have made "a special contribution to recent South African children's literature."

For the 2008 Honour List, the South African selection includes one book in each of five categories:

  • Author: isiXhosa (for which uTshepo Mde was selected)
  • Author: English (The Hidden Star by K. Sello Duiker)
  • Author: Afrikaans (Suurlemoen! by Jaco Jacobs)
  • Translator (Take me to the river, written and translated by Russell H. Kaschula)
  • Illustrator (Ouma Ruby's Secret by Chris van Wyk, illustrated by Anneliese Voigt-Peters)

The South African books are nominated by the local branch of IBBY, IBBY SA.
